Embark on an exciting journey to see the best landscapes of Santo Antao Island that will definitely take everyone's breath away:

At 7:15 a.m - We pick you up from the hotel or private accommodations in Mindelo city and transfer you to the port terminal of Sao vicente, to board the ferry boat on which you will travel to Santo Antao. (we can also pick-up you from Porto Novo).

At 8:00 a.m - São Vicente - Santo Antão Island. The ferry will take 1 hour to reach Porto Novo port terminal.

At 9:00 a.m - A friendly English/French-speaking driver will welcome you at the Porto Novo port terminal (he will be holding a sign with your name) and take you on an 8-hour tour along the mythical Corda road and to the best tourist attractions in the north of Santo Antão Island, offering you a fantastic experience.

Cova Crater

This volcano crater is an iconic natural monument that soars to an altitude of more than 1,522 meters.

The impressive East Plateau.

This Natural Forest Park is the largest pine forest on the island, preserved and unaffected by humans area.

Delgadinho viewpoint

Corda viewpoint (Delgadinho) at 800 meters above sea level, to admire the terraces, a unique monument that were created by the villagers many centuries ago for growing corn, beans, sweet potatoes, etc., and to enjoy an absolutely breathtaking view over the valleys Ribeira da Torre and Ribeira Grande.

Ribeira da Torre valley, considered by many people to be the most picturesque valley in Santo Antao.

Fontaínhas village

This is a beautiful hidden gem on the island, the 2nd best location in the world, according to the international magazine NatGeo.

Ponta do Sol

A sightseeing tour around Ponta do Sol, a charming city known for its beautiful colorful streets, historic buildings of Portuguese architecture, as well as its artisanal fishing port.

Lunch Break

Enjoy a meal at a local restaurant. Options include traditional Cape Verdean dishes (possibility to appreciate un tasty fresh fish caught locally).

Paul Valley

After lunch you will be able to visit and appreciate Paul, the greenest valley in the Cape Verde archipelago...the flower garden. During the visit through the valley, we will stop at a rum distillery where we can taste the famous grogue.

Porto Novo

Return to the port terminal following the island's coastal road will take place around 3pm..

At 17:00 p.m - Ferry-boat Santo Antao - Sao Vicente island.

At 18:00 p.m - We arrive in Sao Vicente and drop off at your hotel/private accommodations in Mindelo city, with a lot of impressions that will last for a long time!

It can be cooler in higher places (especially during the winter months). Bring a thin sweater or jacket. Sunglasses, comfortable shoes and hat are recommended.

Does this Santo Antao Tour include food?
All meals as provided in the itinerary for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, you have the option. The price does not include drinks.

Will I see everything in Santo Antao in one day?
This tour has been put together to show you some of the best attractions in Santo Antao that you can visit by car in 9 hours. There are still lots more that you can see in Santo Antao that requires few days more.

Is this tour suitable for children?
This is a full day tour but has plenty to entertain the children at each stop. If you feel you children won't like a full day, the we suggest another easier tour.

Stop 1 - "Cova" the Volcanic Crater.
The road through the mountains lead us through the semi-desert landscape of Porto Novo to our first stop on our excursion, at the "Cova" viewpoint, the crater of an extinct volcano at an altitude of nearly 1522 meters. It's a fantastic experience, it gives a good idea of the power this planet has to offer. We will take a short break for photos.

Stop 2 - The Eastern Plateau Forest Park
Driving in to the interior of the mountains towards the East Plateau Natural Park you will observe the magnificent landscape that surrounds the road. This unaffected by humans area has the largest pine forest on the island. The road is very popular among tourists because gives a very beautiful view of the mountains and of the agricultural terraces.

Stop 3 – Corda village and "Delgadinho" viewpoint.

At our stop, the charming and picturesque little village "Corda", greets us, often shrouded in mist. It's a village rainfed crops terraces with its fields (corn, beans, peas and common potatoes) with views to the Ribeira da Torre and Ribeira Grande valleys.

A few kilometres further on, at 800 meters above sea level, the "Delgadinho" viewpoint is absolutely breathtaking. There are great views over the two valleys, the East Coast villages, ending gently in the blue Atlantic Ocean further north.

Stop 4 - Xôxô (Ribeira da Torre valley), considered by many people to be the most beautiful valley in Santo Antao.

Stop 5 - Fontaínhas

The next settlement on our tour is Fontainhas, the hidden gem of the Santo Antao island, elected named by National Geographic Magazine the 2nd best located location in the world. Fontaínha is set in a mountain ravine and in the background, the blue of the Atlantic Ocean. The road itself is a real adventure: on the left are high mountain range, and on the right is a cliff, at the foot of which the waves crash. There are viewing platforms where you can stop and enjoy the views.

Stop 6 - Ponta do Sol
Ponta do Sol is a small city, famous for its sunset. A charming town with old and colourful houses. In the city centre we’ll find the main street, the Municipality of Ribeira Grande and the church, impressive Portuguese colonial architecture buildings. It's also interesting to take a walk a sightseeing tour around the artisanal fishing port.
